RT Project - Kroot

Just about everything I've painted for my Pulp 40k projects has been human: either the Emperium of Man, or it's twisted opponents. But sometimes you just need an alien. I was poking around GW's website before Christmas and I noticed they'd re-released the Kroot, so I picked up a box for just such an eventuality. Just as well I did: the January scenario requires aliens!
I made a couple of modifications to the rifle: I really don't like the downward facing blades at each end of the rifle. Cutting the front one off was simple. A little more work at the back, trimming a bit of it off to get a good looking stock for the rifle.
I ruminated on colour schemes for awhile: grey green, pale blue? I ended up going turquoise as it's a colour I haven't used a great deal, so nice for some variety.
Scouring the internet, I'd seen some other examples of Kroot with spots, so thought I'd give it a try. They aren't quite so pronounced it real life.

The scenario requites a few more of these fine chaps, but the deadline for the game is looming. I'll see how I go!

  1. Nice work! I like the spots and the recut stock.

I was just pondering my rather absurd number of Kroot lately, and maybe the answer to "what to do with them" is... Paint them?

  2. Nice choice of colour Preacher, I think the Kroot are one of the more interesting races from 40K.

    1. Thanks Frank! I know very little about them really, apart from the fact that they're obviously more than a little inspired by US woodland Indians. A large factor in getting them was how often I see bits from the kit crop up in other uses (the shoulder pads, bits of meat)! I'll have to do some reading about them. I am keen to try to build some non-combatants from the kit.

  3. Mmm, I like that one. The vibrant colour is a nice change from the usual stuff I always see on Kroots. Thumbs up!

    1. Thanks Suber. At least part of the inspiration for the brighter colour was the lizards you've been doing!

    1. Yes, I'd seen a couple of similar paint schemes on the web, and really like the splash of colour it brings to the table after too much 'grimdark' stuff!
